Contact info@divezonetauranga.co.nz

Time : 7:30am - 5:30pm
Cost : $170 per person (rental equipment is additional)

On 5 October 2011 the MV Rena astonished local mariners by grounding on the clearly marked Astrolabe Reef in the Bay of Plenty while approaching Tauranga Harbour, resulting in New Zealands largest maritime environmental disaster. The salvage operation which cost $700 million – second only to the billions spent in Italy removing the cruise ship Costa Concordia – ended in April 2016 after sea conditions had frequently hampered work. The owners and insurers received resource consent to leave a portion of the Rena on the reef. Removing the rest of the wreck would cost even more than had already been spent.

So come and join us and dive this amazing dive site and learn some of the history of this local event!

We meet at Dive Zone Tauranga at 7:30am to complete the necessary pre-dive registration & to arrange any rental gear requirements that you may have.

Complimentary transport from Dive Zone to the marina is available.

IMPORTANT:

Bookings are essential for all trips, & a deposit of $60 per person is required to secure your booking.  Please note that deposits are only refundable if the trip is cancelled due to adverse weather conditions.

Astrolabe Reef is an advanced dive site, at times subject to strong currents and swells - we reserve the right to pick alternative dive sites if the conditions do not allow us to safely dive Astrolabe Reef.

Use of your own wetsuit, BCD &/or regulators is subject to a safety inspection prior to departure.  If you would like to use your own BCD, you must be equipped with a visual signalling device (safety sausage or similar), an audible signalling device (whistle) & a dive knife or line cutting tool.  Your BCD/regs must also contain an alternate air source (octi).

We reserve the right to refuse use of any equipment that does not meet our inspection standards in the interest of your safety.
